The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan, a widow of the late Ayawaso West Wuogon MP, Emmanuel Kyeremanten Agyarko as their candidate for the upcoming election in January 31, 2019. She polled 441 of the total votes. There were 668 valid votes and two rejected ballots. In all, a total of 670 votes were cast. This means Ms Alhassan will be contesting the seat with Delali Brempong of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The primary which took place on Saturday, was supervised by John Boadu, NPP General Secretary, Peter Mac Manu, former National Chairman of the party and Henry Nana Boakye, National Youth Organiser. The government has, through the Ministry of Interior, declared Monday, January 7, 2019, as a public holiday. In a statement signed by the Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery, he said the day “has been declared a Public Holiday as “Constitution Day”. The statement further urged the public to observe the day as such throughout the country. Readers would recall that the government recently tabled a bill in parliament seeking to amend the public holiday act. A report filed by   MyNewsGh   indicates that a journalist with UTV a subsidiary of the Despite Group of Companies, Mavis Animah Yeboah is dead. According to Isaac Justice Bediako who is a close friend of the deceased, she died on Thursday December 27, 2018 morning at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi where she was on admission receiving treatment. Cause of death is not immediately known, but sources indicate she has been indisposed for some time now but her condition was said to have deteriorated for which reason she was taken to the hospital but never survived the ailment. Close family members have confirmed the unfortunate passing of the former Ashanti Regional Correspondent of Metro TV who until his death was the Brong Ahafo Regional Report of UTV. She left behind two kids with the youngest being six months old.

The final date for the conduct of a DNA test to ascertain the paternity of all the three children of Mr and Mrs Asamoah Gyan has been fixed, MyNewsGh.com can confirm. The founder of Zongo for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Said Sinare has directed his anger at the immediate past national treasure of the party Alhaji Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah for suggesting that the NDC is “anti-Muslim” political party. Expressing his anger via telephone discussions on his sick bed in Cairo, Egypt the founder of Zongo for NDC and a Vice Chairman of the party Alhaji Sinare said his colleague is peddling falsehood in an attempt to make the party unpopular in the Zongo communities but he will fail. He said the recently held congress did not alienate Muslims as stated by the former treasurer. Rather, the delegates decided to vote for their preference and not a party agenda to roughly reject Muslims from the party’s frontline. It will be recalled that Alhaji Sinare had to be rushed to the hospital during the recently held congress by the party at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra. He has been sent to a hospital in Cairo for further checks.
