THE NATIONAL CATHEDRAL CAN WAIT !! BETTER OUR LIVES !!

Kwasi Boateng writes

Is this the change government was preaching about before elections?

I have been having sleepless nights over the construction of the National Cathedral. I ask myself,  is it not the right time when this money could benefit those in the rural areas?

Just take time off your busy schedule and visit a village around and you will see how some Ghanaians are struggling to survive while others are being selfish.

Those in the rural areas are equally human beings and are entitled to equal rights and privileges, but they have bad roads, improper health facilities, poor infrastructures among other social amenities.

Yet, government is going to spend so much building National cathedral. Do we need national cathedral at this end time? Building the national cathedral would not make Christians more righteous nor make others turn from their bad ways.

I believe the fundamental human rights in Ghana is based on values including: fairness, respect, equality of persons and dignity but on the contrary, it is favouring some group of people while others suffer.

Let's be realistic, religious leaders should work on the salvation of their members and help them live a righteous life, rather than advocating for national cathedral where as some members who go there to worship are law breakers and indulge in some deviate behaviors in the society.

In case we need a better place for programmes and religious activities, government can renovate the National Theatre or Accra International Conference Centre to suit its purpose.

The economy is getting worse each day, therefore we need appropriate measures to enhance our economy to better the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.

Senior citizens who are advocating for it will later travel  abroad and enjoy better life if things get worse.

Let us stop politics and face realities.

Farmers are suffering because there are no better incentives for them. Meanwhile they are the ones feeding us in this country.

Some students in the rural areas do not have better infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.

Youth are suffering because there are inadequate job opportunities in the country.

Does the government think building infrastructures here in Accra is enough for Ghanaians and everyone to access it?. Even in Accra, some people do not have a suitable place to sleep, yet government would go ahead to destroy buildings to create space for the building of a  National Cathedral.
Let's care for one another.

Is it a curse to be born in a rural area?

Please, remember our brothers and sisters in the rural areas because, they are suffering. No potable water to drink; what we use to flash our loo is better than what they drink in the villages, even clothes to wear is a challenge, yet government thinks it is the right time to build a National Cathedral while we have better facilities to serve that purpose.

Addressing some key issues or problems raised, wouldn't it do us good and better lives if government hold on with the National Cathedral for now and address some of this problems.

The National Cathedral can't be our priority as a country, rather to better lives.

Let us all speak for change!

Arise Ghana youth!
