Ghanaians should stand with Hon. Agyapong- Ghanaian based London urged.
A Ghanaian based in London Mr. Ebenezer Adjei-Sarpong has called on Ghanaians to stand with the Member of Parliament of Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to condemn the sanction by the Washington administration.
According to him, it is sad and very unfortunate that this pre meditated act had to happen, he categorically condemns such wicked action, and that Ghanaians should help condemning the sanction.
Background
A Member of the US Congress, Henry Johnson Jr. wants the American government to place a travel ban on Ghanaian legislator, Kennedy Agyapong, for his possible role in the murder of undercover investigator, Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
The Congressman in a letter to the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, also recommends a ban on access to the U.S. banking system by Mr. Agyapong, his businesses, and any other appropriate and applicable sanctions.
According to Mr. Johnson, the “professional execution-style slaying of Mr. Hussein-Suale’s murder in the aftermath of Mr.Agyapong’s disgraceful threats raises serious and credible suspicions about the circumstances of this murder.”
Ahmed Husein-Suale, who is a teammate of the award-winning investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was shot dead at Madina in Accra on Wednesday (16th January) night.
"As a nation we pray that Almighty God will touch the family and friend of our brother May his soul rest in perfect peace," he expressed.
Innocent until found guilty
Speaking to Mr. Adjei-Sarpong with regards to the issue, he indicated that, often than not, allegations are made and the defenders are said to be innocent until found guilty.
But, with regards to Hon. Agyapong, his case is otherwise.
"This man is selfless. Sometimes, he risks his life to defend the poor and Ghana as a whole. I am calling all Ghanaians to bury their political differences and stand with him to condemn the action taken against him without further investigation," he noted.
Mr. Adjei-Sarpong bemoaned that, the action against hon. Agyapong from Washington is an insult to the integrity of Ghana, the legal system, judicial system and the President.
Expressing his dissatisfaction to the issue, he explained that, several possible suspects could definitely pop up, but to pick one person and sanction him without interview and trial is absolutely wrong and a miscarriage of justice.
"Whenever a state or individual attacks a nation we must come together as one people to retaliate," he urged.
According to him, it was too early for the Washington to sanction a sitting MP just because of his outburst.
"I do not always support him on that grounds yet it does not make him guilty without trial and fair hearing," he said.
Conduct Investigations
Commending the President, Mr Adjei- Sarpong said, the President Nana Addo Danquah just after the shooting, directed the police to bring the perpetrators to book. This is the best that a President who believes in the rule of law could do.
Therefore, he urged Ghanaians to come together to condemn such a sanction.
Because, he said, "we need to understand that, this will not happen to any white man or in any so called developed nation."
This sanction, he indicated, may not allow hon. Agyapong to travel to the state to do any business for Ghana which would directly or indirectly affect the economy of the country.
He, therefore appeal that, Hon Robert Porter Jackson should advise the Secretary of State, Hon Pompeo to reconsider his stance as the case and allow the competent police force to work.
Again, he urged the public to stop the accusations and blame games to allow the police force to conduct the investigation accordingly.
