CEO of UMB Announces his departure

After years of dedicated and growth  oriented service to the Bank, the Board  of UMB announces the departure of their Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Mr John Awuah. A statement issued by the UMB and copied to the Ghana News Agency said since Mr Awuah joined UMB, he has over the years initiated and championed successful strategies with the private sector as well as partnered the public sector on initiatives for the development of the country. It said some of the projects include the launch the UMB Public Private Partnership (PPP) Incubation Centre, and the growth of the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Ghana through the UMB Centre for Businesses. The statement said under his leadership, the Bank introduced more branches and innovative products to meet its evergrowing customer base.  It said Mr Awuah has built a strong foundation for the present and future growth of UMB and the bank will continue to execute these laudable initiatives. Lydia Alhassan wins Ayawaso West Wuoguon Seat

New Patriotic Party candidate, Lydia Seyram Alhassan has been declared winner in the Ayawaso West Wuogon bye-elections. Four political parties – the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress, Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) contested the vacant seat at the constituency. The candidates who vied for the position of the late Member of Parliament for the constituency were Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the NPP, Delali Kwesi Brempong (NDC), Clement Boadi (LPG) and PPP’s aspirant William Dowokpor. Reporting from the collation centre at Legon, Peace FM’scorrespondent Obeng Manu indicated that Madam Seyram Alhassan won the bye-election by a landslide victory, polling 12,041 votes representing 68.8 percent while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Delali Kwasi Brempong polled 5,341 votes representing 30.52%. NDC withdraws from Ayawaso West Wuogon By-election

The opposition National Democratic Congress has announced its withdrawal from the ongoing by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.  The decision was announced in an interview on Accra-based Peace FM by the national chairman of the party Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.  It comes after four people were allegedly been shot at the Baweleshie polling centre.  According to GHone TV’s Evans Nkoom, blood stains could be seen at the polling centre near the candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress.  The injured have reportedly been taken out of the center.  According to NDC MP, a man was bartered and shot right in front of him He was beaten and I could see blood running from his nostrils and then we shot. The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George says he has been attacked by members of the NPP Invincible Forces at the ongoing Ayawaso West Wuogon bye election. In a facebook post, he said:  "I have just been assaulted by several members of the NPP Invincible Forces attired in National Security Council shirts and vests. They fired several rounds of ammunition at me simply because I was doing my legal job of monitoring the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, I am grateful to you". A Ghanaian based in London Mr. Ebenezer Adjei-Sarpong has called on Ghanaians to stand with the Member of Parliament of Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to condemn the sanction by the Washington administration.  According to him, it is sad and very unfortunate that this pre meditated act had to happen, he categorically condemns such wicked action, and that Ghanaians should help condemning the sanction.
