Lydia Alhassan wins Ayawaso West Wuoguon Seat

New Patriotic Party candidate, Lydia Seyram Alhassan has been declared winner in the Ayawaso West Wuogon bye-elections. Four political parties – the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress, Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) contested the vacant seat at the constituency. The candidates who vied for the position of the late Member of Parliament for the constituency were Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the NPP, Delali Kwesi Brempong (NDC), Clement Boadi (LPG) and PPP’s aspirant William Dowokpor. Reporting from the collation centre at Legon, Peace FM’scorrespondent Obeng Manu indicated that Madam Seyram Alhassan won the bye-election by a landslide victory, polling 12,041 votes representing 68.8 percent while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Delali Kwasi Brempong polled 5,341 votes representing 30.52%. NDC withdraws from Ayawaso West Wuogon By-election

The opposition National Democratic Congress has announced its withdrawal from the ongoing by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.  The decision was announced in an interview on Accra-based Peace FM by the national chairman of the party Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.  It comes after four people were allegedly been shot at the Baweleshie polling centre.  According to GHone TV’s Evans Nkoom, blood stains could be seen at the polling centre near the candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress.  The injured have reportedly been taken out of the center.  According to NDC MP, a man was bartered and shot right in front of him He was beaten and I could see blood running from his nostrils and then we shot. The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George says he has been attacked by members of the NPP Invincible Forces at the ongoing Ayawaso West Wuogon bye election. In a facebook post, he said:  "I have just been assaulted by several members of the NPP Invincible Forces attired in National Security Council shirts and vests. They fired several rounds of ammunition at me simply because I was doing my legal job of monitoring the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, I am grateful to you". James Ingram , one of the biggest stars in R&B music in the 1980s and ’90s, and a double Grammy winner and two-time Oscar nominee, has died at age 66.
