Côte d'Ivoire @ 58

The history of Côte d'Ivoire prior to first contact with Europeans is virtually unknown to the general public. These first contacts remained limited with only a few European missionaries in the sixteenth century. A Neolithic culture existed, however, is poorly known because of a lack of archaeological discoveries.

However, the history of the Ivory Coast merges with that of the father of independence, Felix Houphouet Boigny; first president of Cote d'Ivoire.

Indeed, colonized by France, Ivory Coast experienced several movements before independence. An independence gained thanks to the fierce battles fought by his ex and first president, Felix Houphouet Boigny.

The latter having in 1944 create a farmers' union which will become a democratic party of Cote d'Ivoire in 1946. He voted in France the law abolishing the forced labor on April 11, 1946.

Then on February 1, 1956 Felix Houphouet Boigny became minister delegated to the presidency of the council and participated in the drafting of the constitution of the fifth French republic from January 1959.

Then, On August 7, 1960, Côte d'Ivoire became an independent republic after being a French colony for the first 67 years of its existence and Felix Houphouet-Boigny is elected President of the Republic. It will be repeated six times in 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985 and 1990.

Today August 7, 2018 Cote d'Ivoire celebrates its 58 years of independence with its head Mr. Alassane Ouattara.
