3rd June Disaster

A disaster is a sudden accident or natural catastrophe that causes great damage and loss of life.This piece seeks to give a recap of what transpired three years ago.

It started with normal rains on a cool night to nourish crops and fill reservoirs but it turned out to be a violent rain of anguish, death, and fire.
3rd June  2015 will forever remain indelible in the minds of many, a blot on the city and of great depression to a nation.


Over 150 life's men ,women and children were snuffed in the most horrifying circumstances when the rain turned into a storm, the storm into floods; the floods gave way to fire and the left behind charred bodies, burnt properties in an unplanned city.



Three years on and I want to take you down to the chilling memory lane of how the day's dream turned into a worst nightmare for hundreds of residents in and around circle, adabraka and all in Accra.



On an ending note,the nation mourned its lost souls on June 4th and to celebrate the survivors of the disaster, goodwill messages and thousands of relief items were donated to assuage  their pains.

    Let's hope that this catastrophe wakes the people up from their daydream, to help change their ways in relation to poor sanitation. Lest....

SOLUTIONS TO THESE IMPENDING ISSUES ARE AS FOLLOWS ; Place bins at vantage points – It has been said that, the last time this was tried, the bins were stolen. Unpatriotic Ghanaians shouldn’t stop us from living well. Police the beaches- Beaches must be policed, cleaned and preserved – Seriously, the idea of fish fattened on poop is not natural or funny. It is not a worthy cultural practice either. It should stop. The sight of adults and children constantly shitting at our coastline is one of the quickest ways of spreading disease and degrading the seabed. Every home must have a toilet facility – In 2019, open defecation should be unacceptable to all Ghanaians. This must be the law. “FIX THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS OR STEP DOWN”– CONCERNED ROAD USERS TO THE UPPER EAST REGIONAL MINISTER The capital town of the Upper East Region, Bolgatanga, roads has been decorated with all kinds of traffic lights but none of them are functioning. This makes users of the road: both drivers and pedestrians feel uncomfortable anytime they are using these major roads in their daily businesses in the town. They believed that the traffic lights are just on the various road points for beautification and not to help pedestrians to minimize road accidents.
