CONCERNED ROAD USERS TO THE UPPER EAST REGIONAL MINISTER

“FIX THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS OR STEP DOWN”– CONCERNED ROAD USERS TO THE UPPER EAST REGIONAL MINISTER

The capital town of the Upper East Region, Bolgatanga, roads has been decorated with all kinds of traffic lights but none of them are functioning. This makes users of the road: both drivers and pedestrians feel uncomfortable anytime they are using these major roads in their daily businesses in the town.

They believed that the traffic lights are just on the various road points for beautification and not to help pedestrians to minimize road accidents.

According to Mr Razak, a spokesperson for Bolgatanga Youth Movement (BYM), they have been complaining about the poor nature of the traffic lights to the Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive, but they have turned a blind eye on it. And they are calling on the president of the Republic of Ghana to either help them to fix the traffic lights or allow the Regional Minister to resign.

” For the past two years, the traffic lights are not functioning, and day in, day out innocent road users, especially school children are losing their lives through accidents. Yet the Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief
Executive are doing totally nothing to address this problem simple because they have V8 vehicles to be roaming around and drinking beer”, he stressed.

He concluded that the president should either put pressure on the Regional Minister to address the problems or allow him to resign if not, it will be difficult for the party to gain 70% vote coming 2020 election in the Region.

Mr. Abdullah, a Taxi driver , expressed his disappointment on the lackadaisical steps that the Regional Minister and the government are using in tackling the developmental issues in the Region.

“I voted for president Nana Akuffo Addo because I believed in his visions of making Ghana beyond Aid, but it’s a shame that he can’t even repair common traffic lights which has been killing many road users in the Region. Just yesterday, a Taxi driver and motorbike rider crashed just in front of the police headquarters due to no traffic lights regulations”, he vehemently said.

He concluded that either the president should put pressure on the Regional Minister to fix the traffic lights and some of the road signs or risk losing 60% vote in the coming election in the Region.
